You haven't really lived unless you attended a Polish wedding. There are many traditions that are observed: from the greeting with music at the home of the bride before the church ceremony - - to the last strains of a haunting Polish waltz played at the very end of the reception.
The band goes to the bride's home performing the "On The Porch Wedding March", and plays for her while she is preparing for the ceremony. During the ceremony it's a must that she visits the statue of the Blessed Virgin at a side altar to place a bouquet of flowers to the music of the hymn "Serdeczna Matko".
At the wedding reception the guests form a circle around the bride and groom as they dance to "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" and "I Love Your Truly". The father of the bride has to dance with her to "Tatusiu Waltz".
When the food is ready, the wedding party led by the bride and groom marches around the hall to "At The Wedding March" inviting the guests to come to eat. The wedding party leaves the "White Table" to dance the "Krakowiak", obereks, polkas, and waltzes.
As the musicians play and sing "Twelve Angels', the bridesmaids remove the bride's veil. With the bride seated on the groom's lap, the unveiling song "Odczepiny" is sung. The end of the reception is always marked with the waltz "How Time Goes By". Often this event was carried over to the second day known as "Poprawiny".
An invitation to such an old fashioned Polish wedding was sure to leave a lasting impression.
